The differences were astonishing, with some toddlers hearing only about 500 words per hour (that’s just 10 words each minute) and some toddlers hearing more than twice that number.
In addition to just increasing brain power, playing with blocks of all sorts increases children’s math ability. They master concepts of shape and size, determine relationships between blocks and solve spatial problems as part of building structures.
Children of “highly sensitive parents” did very well in school. “Sensitive parenting” was defined as adjusting to fit the child’s behavior and responses, setting age-appropriate limits, and avoiding being overly permissive.
The possibility of repeating kindergarten – or any other grade – is a reminder to keep on top of children’s progress in school from the very beginning of the year. It’s easier to fix things when a problem is identified early.
